Dream Cheeky’s USB Mini Controller with detachable micro steering wheel

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

FROM GAMERTELL - It appears that I’ve got a fetish for Dream Cheeky products this week.  Before it was the USB Metal Game Pad, now it is the USB Mini Controller.  I honestly don’t know how anyone could not be attracted to this new controller with its tiny detachable steering wheel.  I’m guessing… MORE »

“Blitz” is a smartphone for tweens

“Blitz” is a smartphone for tweens
When I first saw the TXT8010, also known as the “Blitz”, I saw that it is billed as a smartphone for tweens. In all honesty, I thought that tweens were already into smartphones like BlackBerrys to do their Gossip Girl style conversations, but I must be thinking of teens. No, this phone is marketed to tweens, that 8-14 age category that a lot of companies market to for quick sales. I suppose they need phones too, so it really is no surprise that that Verizon has teamed up with UTStarcom for this audience. Features of this particular phone include the QWERTY keyboard, VCAST music, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth capability. I’m not certain how much internal memory this TXT8010, but it has a MicroSD slot for more. (Read the full post about ‘“Blitz” is a smartphone for tweens’…)

Sony’s Cybershot DSC-T500 lets you capture high-definition video

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Sony will soon be releasing a feature-rich and yet affordable point-and-shoot joining its Cybershot series - the DSC-T500 digital camera. Featuring a 10-megapixel sensor, this compact digital camera can record wide and full-screen 720p video at up to 30fps in its fine, standard and VGA video recording modes. By standard this is high-enough considering that the DSC-T500 is a digital camera.

The DSC-T500’s movie function is based on the MPEG4 AVC/H.264 codec which produces high-quality video without eating up too much space of the memory card. This movie mode comes even better with a zoom function that works even when the camera is in recording mode.

Mojave Experiment: Success? Failure? Or Something else?

Mojave Experiment: Success? Failure? Or Something else?
On many of the online shows that I am prone to watch on my typical work day, I have been seeing ads for the “Mojave Experiment”. At first I thought it was a reference to the Area 51/Roswell incident, but Roswell is actually nowhere near the Mojave desert. The Mojave experiment is actually an ad campaign by Microsoft for Windows Vista that is more of a response to the negative criticism that Vista has been receiving. The ad features some random people responding to some questions about Windows Vista. Microsoft asks them questions like “Why haven’t you upgraded yet?” They usually say that they have heard about all the problems. Oddly enough, they don’t show the responses where people say, “I couldn’t afford it”. (Read the full post about ‘Mojave Experiment: Success? Failure? Or Something else?’…)

Enter to win a Voodoo Envy 133 or IdeaPad S10, courtesy of Notebooks.com

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Our buddy Xavier over at Notebooks.com currently has a excellent contest running, they are giving away a chance to win either a Voodoo Envy 133 worth $2,199 or one of three IdeaPad S10s.

“We will randomly select one grand prize (Envy S10) winner and three (Ideapad S10) winners from the pool of respondents who have completed the survey, including all open-ended questions by September 3rd. Winners will be notified of their prizes by email by Sept. 16.”

Sounds like some great prizes, you do have to fill out a survey in order to qualify, but with notebooks like those I think it sounds like it could be well worth your time.

Sony KDL-40ZX1

Sony KDL-40ZX1
Sony is in full swing at this years IFA and the new Sony KDL-40ZX1 takes the crown as the world’s thinnest LCD HDTV.  The Sony ZX1 will be available as the 40-inch KDL-40ZX1, which quality became one of the most exciting new HDTVs we have seen in a while.  Halving the previous “world’s thinnest” by almost half the Sony KDL-40ZX1 is stunning at just 9.9mm thick. Sony has achieved this record thinness of the Sony KDL40ZX1 by using a new engineering technology which uses side-mounted LEDs to illuminate the screen rather than a usual backlight array.  This leads to the KDL-40ZX1 being just 9.9mm thick, which is the same as a CD case. The Room Tech Beingz Alarm Clock

The Room Tech Beingz Alarm Clock
Alarm clocks are probably the most obnoxious of gadgets, even if it is one of the most important.  I typically just use my phone as an alarm clock, however, I’ve regretted that on several occasions.  Usually when my Mother decides because she’s awake everyone else should be too and decides to call me a good 2 hours before I actually need to wake up.  Which is why a smart person would probably turn off their cellphone and use an alarm clock to wake them up everyday.  Well this particular alarm clock has ways of making sure you get out of bed everyday. Gadgetell review: Jabra Sp700: stop looking like a jerk

Gadgetell review: Jabra Sp700: stop looking like a jerk
Product: Jabra SP700. Price and Availability: $99 out now Pros: Doesn’t make you look like a tool.  Easily answer calls in your car.  Makes not upgrading to the expensive new cars “tech package” a lot easier to live with.  Sound is great, surround sound through speakers is even better. Cons: no air of superiority that comes with a headset (wait, maybe that should be in the Pros?) Overall: I’ve already ordered two for my cars.  I give it 10/10 If you are like me, you’ll go to almost any length no to wear your bluetooth headset.  An incoming call when I am in the car sends me fumbling around my front seats for the tiny headset, the awkward install into my ear and then my eyes are back on the road.  Surely that is safer than just answer the phone? Femisapien conforms to worst gender stereotypes (goody!)

Femisapien conforms to worst gender stereotypes (goody!)
Remember the Robosapien? That impressive (male) robot which could do all manner of cool things, from marching about in a dominant manner to throwing things and um… burping. Well, it was about time manufacturers WowWee brought out a female version with similarly gender stereotypical specifications. The Femisapien can dance with you, blow kisses and pose in an impressive manner. So basically, she’s a beauty queen in robotic form. Pointless and regressive technology, much? Via Shiny Shiny.
