The Speed Vest is one those devices that looks good in concept, but I’m not certain if it will work in practice. It is a simple device that spells out your speed limit on your back, as if you’re wearing a team jersey with ever-changing numbers. This Do it Yourself Project is designed by Brady Clark and Hykle Hansen. The vest is powered by an Arduino computer, an open-source embedded platform that is powered by an Amtel microcontroller. As for the display itself, it uses electro luminescent wire that glows brightly with just a small amount of high voltage. One AA battery can power the Speed Vest for up to six hours, while a 9 volt can power the Amtel microcontroller for the same amount of time. (Read the full post about ‘Speed Vest has got your back’…)

Seems as though the folks over there at Microsoft have really been busy as of late. Their Office Labs recently released the the Speed Launch Program , and now Microsoft ‘s Live Labs just released their Photosynth program for consumers. What was once just a “oh isn’t that so pretty” tech demo, the program is now something that just about anyone can actually go on and use now. While before, the process took weeks of stitching photos together on specially configured server arrays; it is now able to be done by taking groups of photos that you’ve taken with your digital camera or even your mobile phone, and the program then stitches them into a faux 3D environment converted right onto your computer. I think I need a USB-powered vacuum for my notebook keyboard, what with my late nights in front of the computer and all, along with a steady diet of pizza and other pastries which tend to leave plenty of crumbs in between my keys. Henry the Hoover looks like a pretty nice guy to help me out in my crumbed predicament. Now in a mini desktop size, this Henry the Hoover is your desktop crumb buster. Pop in the batteries, press on and get vacuuming up the remnance of your tea break. Empty your crumbs by unscrewing Henry’s hat and tipping the contents into the bin. Silly yet practical, this cheeky chappy deserves a space on any self respecting biscuit fan’s worktop. (Read the full post about ‘Henry the Hoover’…)

Youdoo Dog prides itself in being the first ever make-your-own dog kit in the world, helping folks who have always longed for the ideal pet but do not have the living space to accommodate one. Okay, raise your hand if you still have a landline. I’m getting very few hands, here. For those that have them up, may I suggest the OpenFrame platform? As you can see, the OpenFrame looks like someone took the menu screen on the iphone and put it on a digital picture frame. It also comes with some handsets that presumably link up wirelessly with the apparatus. I’m not certain how well you can read the windows from the attached photo, but it has options like a calendar, plus access to on-line features such as local weather and news. It appears there is a movie function, so I’m guessing this allows you to play video. I also see some other ones including an icon for Sirius satellite radio, and even one for Flickr. Nokia has turned out a 3G luxury slider cell phone that’s elegant in both style and function, and ideal for someone who perhaps prefers understated beauty over something shiny that screams out for attention. Made of carbon fiber, titanium, polished glass, and stainless steel, it has a rather weighty demeanor. The owner of this phone will be able to access its features with subtle gestures: tape it twice and it discreetly displays the time, and simply turn the phone face-down to silence incoming calls. All very smooth. Meanwhile, it boasts a 3.2 megapixel camera, high quality audio, 4GB of built-in memory, and a smudge-proof coating. The Carbon Arte is expected to retail at around $1,600 when it becomes available later this year. (Read the full post about ‘Luxury cell phone - Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte’…)

Long annoyed with Apple’s barbs and those “Get a Mac” ads, Microsoft has called in the help of comedian Jerry Seinfield for their latest ad campaign. Along with retired Bill Gates, Seinfield will be helping to promote their new “Windows not walls” tagline. Their newest ad campaign is running them $300 million, which makes it one of Richmond’s biggest ever; and $10 million of that is going straight to “key celebrity pitchman” Jerry Seinfield for his assistance. Not a shabby paycheck there Jerry, especially since you usually displayed Macs in your apartment on your show. (Read the full post about ‘Microsoft has Seinfield help battle Apple in new ads’…)
