The projector market is about to have a new competitor with the IN80 from InFocus. It is able to process 1080p images, and project them on the wall at a 4 meter diagonal. Other features include a Texas Instruments DLP DarkChip system with BrilliantColor, as well as Integrated Pixelworks DNX 10-bit video processing. It also has a 2,500:1 native contrast ratio, and 1,300 ANSI lumens of brightness. It also comes with HDMI inputs. As far as setup is concerned, there is an automatic color gamut and black level calibration, along with the digital vertical lens shift and digital keystone correction for greater flexibility in installing the projector. There is also ISF Day and Night presets. If this is something that you’re looking at for the future, it will be available in September, for about $2,430. Looking almost like a rejected PDA design from the 90’s, the latest incarnation of the Slacker Portable Player has just made its FCC appearance. Overall Slacker G2 Wi-Fi portable player seems to be a big improvement style-wise. Based on the images, the player is roughly 3-inches tall and 2-inches wide, which will be nice compared to the current player which is 4.2-inches tall and 2.76 inches wide. The overall layout has also changed, the display will obviously be smaller as well, but all things considered a 4-inch diagonal display on a device that does not play video seems to be overkill anyway. In addition to the smaller overall size and smaller display, the buttons have also been moved to a more convenient position on the front and a located just under the display. The latest rumored launch date of August 19 for the BlackBerry Bold with Rogers seems like it just may come true. Of course, Rogers has still not officially confirmed this date, but thanks to some pics posted over on HowardForums we can see that at least some locations have begun to receive the official Bold Launch kit. We have recently seen a few carriers launch the Bold, but sadly North America has been left out until this point. We can only hope that Rogers will be able to follow through on this latest rumored date, and that AT&T will not be much longer afterward. Set your TiVo for the Playboy channel on Monday, September 1st, at 7:30 PM EDT. Let this be known that I’m not prescribing a recipe for a cheap soft-porn thrill, but a new reality show called Gadget or The Girl. The premise of this show is exactly what the title suggests. The rules of the show is that a contestant is given his choice of three beautiful women, and he can take two of these women on a date. Eventually, he chooses one beautiful woman to spend the evening with, but there is one final choice after that. The contestant is told that he can either go on a romantic getaway with his final choice, or take home a new gadget, presumably to keep. Take yourself back twenty-five years ago, when IBM computers ruled the Earth. Do you remember how loud those keyboards were? Today’s laptops and desktops are practically silent compared to the way those old school keyboards would click at the slightest touch. Loud as they were, there was something about the way the keys clicked that made you feel that work was being done. Das Keyboard has brought back the clickity-clack magic with their Professional and Ultimate keyboard models. The clicking comes from gold-plated key switches that are the product of the German Cherry engineering corporation. Both of the keyboards have a sleek glossy black design. Just because you want to start traveling green, doesn’t necessarily mean you have to let the luxuries of your car drift into the horizon. One of main concerns about bike travel, other than safety and the lack of A/C, is the loss of a pounding sound system to bust out all of your hard rocking tunes. A bunch of teens from Queens, NYC have proved that sound doesn’t have to be sacrificed. In a short film titled “Made In Queens”, the teens, all of which are originally from Trinidad, show off their custom bikes with their unusual modifications. These Trinidadians have taken up the hobby of pimping out their bicycles with audio equipment. (Read the full post about ‘Sound Systems for Bikes’…)

Imagine taking a bite into the most sour lemon you can possibly conceive of. The thought alone will likely make your mouth start to pucker and your tongue start to tingle. I love the flavor of lemon, but if the juice isn’t diluted, there’s just no way for me to eat a lemon without taking one bite and spitting it right back into the trash. The Miracle Berry Fruit Tablets magically makes sour and bitter foods taste sweet. Similar methods have been around since at least the 1700s, yet science is still yet to figure out a true cause of this effect. It has something to do with a protein called miraculin, but that’s as far as science has gotten us. (Read the full post about ‘Miracle Berry Fruit Tablets turn sour into sweet’…)

These days, it seems that MP3 players have to do more than just play audio files. No, they have to be portable media players capable of playing video files, photo viewing, audio recording, as well as ebook readers. Now, someone has decided to put another feature on the traditional MP3 player: scent. That’s right, someone has finally made an mp3 player that smells. Yes, this Strawberry Shortcake technology has been placed on the iCool MP3 Player, so that you can get a whiff of chocolate, rose, lemon, and even marijuana while you listen to your favorite tunes. Don’t ask me too much about the Mary Jane scent. I’m guessing that it is an artificial odor, or a lot of people are going to be subject to search and seizure. All of these scented MP3 players (including the pot-scented one) come with a replaceable embossed faceplate, and a 3D holographic lens. The MP3 players have very little memory, at only about 256MB, however they come with expansionary memory slot that is compatible with SD/MMC memory card reader. They play multiple formats including MP3, WAV, and WMA. I believe that these are available on the Audiotronic website, but I don’t see a price. In other words, I see a lot of evidence showing that these scented MP3 Players exist, but not enough info to purchase one. I’m beginning to think that someone is bamboozling us, and the marijuana flavor is enough to convince me. Via [Gadget Miss] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! by Donald Melanson, posted Aug 13th 2008 at 4:04PM It looks like a group of researchers from the University of Reading are making a solid run at the title of mad scientists of the year (in the best sense, of course), with them now boasting that they’ve developed a robot that’s controlled by a “biological brain.” That’s not quite the sci-fi sight you may be imagining, however (though it’s close), with it instead made up of some 300,000 neurons taken from the neural cortex of a rat fetus, which are contained in multi electrode array that packs 60 electrodes to pick up the signals generated by the cells and, in turn, control the robot. There are some gadgets that just “work” without having a real purpose other than looking cool. The Cybertek Wings are one of those gadgets. They won’t gift you with the power of flight and they won’t give you angelic powers, but they sure as hell make you look really, really cool. Built out of carbon fiber and extruded aluminum, the pneumatic powered Cybertek Wings just look crazy cool. The images speak for themselves. You can even add a custom twist to your wings buy ordering your choice of colored wingtips, which activate when the wings expand. The Cybertek Wings will actually extend and retract like a bird’s wings, and will do so about 7 times before they have to be recharged with air pressure for about 5-10 minutes.
