Nokia’s Jeppe video “pet” concept
by Paul Miller, posted Aug 12th 2008 at 9:36AM No matter how much we do it, video conferencing is still one of the most awkward internet-related tasks we undertake on a regular basis. Nokia hopes to bring a more casual air to the event with its Jeppe video conferencing robot pet concept. Similar to most telepresence bots, Jeppe can be controlled remotely — through a Nokia interface, conveniently — and zips through the home with its digital compass and sound sensors seeking humans to bother. Unfortunately, the video is at a fixed angle and there’s no option wipe that creepy grin of its face, but obviously Nokia has some refining to do before it brings Jeppe to market, if ever. Baacode tells you exactly where your clothes came from

Baacode tells you exactly where your clothes came from
I’ve had a fondness for Merino sheep since my Aussie holiday earlier this year, when I was lucky enough to see a couple of newly-born Merino lambs. When they grow up, their thick coat produces excellent wool that is often used to make fleeces. Now outdoor apparel company Icebreaker has made it easy for customers to find out where their fleecy products came from with the help of a system they’re calling Baacode (get it?) which launched last week. Spy Kite is Toy for James Bond Jr.

Spy Kite is Toy for James Bond Jr.
I don’t know if you’ve ever watched a show on the USA Network called Burn Notice, but it is about a spy that was fired by his particular spy organization. He is now forced to do A-Team-ish jobs for clients in order to make a living. I bring this show up because the main character, Michael, makes his own spy equipment from old cellular phones and GPS devices, and the Spy Kite is low-tech spy gear that he could just buy instead of making. The Spy Kite is just what it sounds like, a wind flyer that has a digital camera mounted on the frame. This delta wing model is made of fiberglass, and can take pictures from 80 feet in the air. Extra-Wide Contacts gives you that sought after Anime look

Extra-Wide Contacts gives you that sought after Anime look
Rather you call it Japanimation or anime, the Japanese style of cartooning has a few distinctive factors which are hard to ignore. The chunky hair styles are angular and sharp, while the stand-out facial feature is undeniably the huge eyes and wide irises. While you can easily fashion your hair in anyway you wish with enough effort, changing your eyes to resemble an anime character was at one time, pretty impossible. It seems that a few companies are now starting to produce Extra-Wide Contact Lenses which give you that deer-caught-in-the-headlights wide irised look. Ranging from prices between $30-$50 a pair, depending on the company you purchase from. Cosplay was never this realistic. Gaj-It returns to winning ways, winning last weeks coolest gadget with the exceedingly cool Rovio Wi-Fi Robot. This ingenious piece of gadgetry streams video and audio through a built-in camera, and can be controlled from anywhere. 12seconds is Twitter… for video bloggers

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

You know we are a little obsessed with Twitter round these parts: the micro-blogging/social networking service is endlessly useful for finding information, keeping up with friends and family and sharing opinions. It’s also been proved that catching up with your friends’ Twitterings is the best way to start the day (according to, er, me).

12seconds doesn’t have quite the same appeal, as I have no desire to show anyone my morning hair, the contents of my bedroom or what I’m having for lunch.
