Sony’s XEL-1 OLED TV spotted at Sam’s Club for $1,748
by Darren Murph, posted Aug 5th 2008 at 1:47PM You can order up Sony’s XEL-1 OLED TV from SonyStyle.com right now for $2,499.99 and hope that it ships by tomorrow. Or, you can waltz on down to your local Sam’s Club, plunk down for a membership and walk out with the previously mentioned set for just $1,748.51. We can’t say for sure if these units are available at Clubs nationwide just yet, but that’s a comparatively delicious price for those in the market for an ultra-small, ultrathin OLED TV. Guardium UGV robot tears it up to keep watch on trespassers

Guardium UGV robot tears it up to keep watch on trespassers
by Donald Melanson, posted Aug 5th 2008 at 4:26PM We’ve seen plenty of robot security guards before, but not one quite like this so-called Guardium UGV built by G-Nius, which is apparently just as comfortable going off-road as it is patrolling a parking lot. Unlike some other “robots,” this one is also fully autonomous, with it relying on GPS most of the time, and it able to fall back on its own decision-making skills to overcome poor GPS conditions and avoid obstacles. Naturally, the bot can also be loaded up with any number of different payloads to let it take on more ambitious missions, including a hostile fire indicator, a missile approach warning system, chemical snifters, fire extinguishers, and even an “RFID Interrogator,” to name but a few. Motorola Alexander gets pictured: WinMo 6.1, NVIDIA graphics, Q4 release
by Darren Murph, posted Aug 5th 2008 at 11:50AM Surely that “last stand” Motorola handset is still burned into your memory, right? No? Anywho, said mobile was just given a face courtesy of Boy Genius, and it’s an, um, interesting face at that. We’ll let you be the judge on its unsightliness (or beauty, depending on inebriation level), but aside from design, we’re expecting this one to include Windows Mobile 6.1, NVIDIA graphics, a 5- to 8-megapixel camera, A-GPS and a Q4 release date. Palm’s heart monitor just started beeping

Palm’s heart monitor just started beeping
There was a lot of talk about who would take the biggest blow in the smartphone world with the intro of the iPhone.  A Changewave study shows this chart.  What’s interesting isn’t the data the graph is making obvious, it is the totals.  If you add up the % of the smartphone market, you’ll find the total market segment being served by Palm, Rim and Apple throughout this period isn’t changing.  It is staying relatively flat at about 2/3rds of all smartphones.  So this would suggest, the merry trio are not bringing new folks into the smartphone market, rather just cutting up the pie differently. Fuel Checker Prevents Terrifying Mistake

Fuel Checker Prevents Terrifying Mistake
I’m not certain if this is one of the most useful or useless devices that I have ever reported on. This next device is for those who try to refuel their car with the wrong type of fuel. So if you’ve ever put diesel instead of unleaded in your car by mistake, perhaps this could prevent you from ruining your engine all over again. Yes, I have never done that either, but I guess it couldn’t hurt to have a little preventative measure like this. All that is required is to install the gadget on the inside of your fuel flap, and go ahead and hold the fuel nozzle up every time you fill ‘er up. If you put the wrong type of fuel in, a little light will go off. (Read the full post about ‘Fuel Checker Prevents Terrifying Mistake’…)

Sharp intros entry-level SB series of 1080p LCD HDTVs
by Darren Murph, posted Aug 5th 2008 at 3:22PMOh sure, Sharp’s doing the whole OLED thing because of societal pressures, but it’s no secret where its passion lies. The outfit best known for its AQUOS brand has just introduced a trio of newcomers aimed at those looking for an “entry-level” HDTV: the 42-inch LC-42SB45U, 46-inch LC-46SB54U and the 52-inch LC-52SB55U. Each of the LCD HDTVs boast a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution panel, glossy piano-black finish, a pair of component jacks, a dedicated PC input and built-in NTSC / ATSC / ClearQAM tuners to boot. As for HDMI sockets, you’ll find four on the big fellow, two on the 46-incher and three on the “little guy.” The pain? Boynq Iris combines all of your desktop gadgetry
Last week there was the combination webcam that featured four other gadgets built-in.  Well this has just as many gadgets built-in, but has a slightly more streamlined look.  Instead of having multiple arms with different devices on the end, this one merely puts all the gadgets into one piece.  Within this little guy is a webcam, speaker, light and microphone.  The light itself features 8-LED lights to make sure your work space stays illuminated. Nissan’s ECO Pedal pushes back during acceleration

Nissan’s ECO Pedal pushes back during acceleration
Despite having the best of intentions to alter your driving habits in order to save on gas, sometimes it’s difficult to change your ways.  Well Nissan has designed a gas pedal called the ECO Pedal to help you with your lead foot.  When it senses you’re accelerating too quickly, it will begin pushing back.  Which if you prefer a car that has the ability to get up and go, it’s going to become a bit obnoxious.  They do claim the it will increase fuel efficiency by 5 to 10 percent.  Which would definitely cut down on all that money you’ve been forking out for gas.
