Paper weighing scale is a featherweight

Paper weighing scale is a featherweight
If the concept design for the paper weighing scale designed by Duck Image Studio sees the light of day, then I will no longer have to worry if someone else is looking down at the embarassingly high figures on my scale while I am standing on it. Ask how? Because the paper weighing scale is different from other weighing scales – it is inconspicuous, almost like paper, and can be placed anywhere in the house as it is ultra-thin and flexible. The figures are depicted via large numerals flashed on an e-paper display – easy enough to let you steal a sly glance as you are walking down the hallway, for example. And you can leave the paper scale out on the floor through the day since it is waterproof and easy to clean. (Read the full post about ‘Paper weighing scale is a featherweight’…)

Parrot DF7220 Wireless Digital Photo Frame

Parrot DF7220 Wireless Digital Photo Frame

We’ve reported on Parrot products before, especially with their new lineup at CES. I was greatly impressed with their new line of picture frames, and I finally had a chance to try out one of their newest: the DF7220. The DF7220 is a complex piece of hardware, yet is simple to use. All I had to was plug the frame in an ordinary wall outlet, and it was ready to download pictures. Then I plugged in the USB into frame and transferred the files from a computer with a simple Cut and Paste procedure. There is also the option of downloading via Bluetooth from a mobile phone or camera. According to the official record of the product, the frame can hold 300 photos. Bike Cuffs to prevent theft

Bike Cuffs to prevent theft

The Bike Cuffs that you see here are no ordinary cuffs or lock that helps being a theft deterrent - they’re harder to crack than a complicated Sudoku puzzle. The heavy-duty cuffs attach around the fork and disc rotor so would-be thieves can’t make off with your bike unless they’re armed with some kind of Fort Knox-busting wonder weapon. This nifty arrangement means you won’t have to faff around taking off your wheel for full lockdown. You don’t even need to use the keys to secure your bike, just click the cuffs using the integrated buttons. Of course no locking system is completely impenetrable but Bike Cuffs are highly-rated by crime prevention bods. (Read the full post about ‘Bike Cuffs to prevent theft’…)

USB Hub with Clock and Mood Light

Is it just me or does anyone else think that this USB Hub with Clock and Mood Light look like the mac mini? The design of the USB Hub with clock and mood light is a blend of functionality and simplicity. It is a multi-function USB hub featuring an integrated 7-color mood light. The 7 soft colors will start to illuminate by taking turns the moment the device is powered. It also doubles up as a desk-based alarm clock, waking you up from your afternoon nap and reminding you that there are just three more agonizing minutes to 5 before you can take off from the office. The time display is backlit as well for your convenience. The USB Hub with Clock and Mood Light retails for $16 from Brando. (Read the full post about ‘USB Hub with Clock and Mood Light’…)

Satellite radio merger in limbo

Satellite radio merger in limbo
The much hyped merger of Satellite radio providers XM and Sirius has stalled, and the deadline is looming. The original deal was struck on February 19, 2007 and the termination date is Saturday. Sirius is desperate for the merger but regulators have still not approved the plan. Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin said he expects the boards of both companies to meet to extend that deadline. The DOJ seems to be stuck on the question of whether the merger would result in a monopoly. The answer to most is no, given that most satellite radio usage happens in cars, where DVD players, iPods, and free radio are also options. Since February 20, 2007, Sirius shares have fallen 22% to $3.05, while XM shares have sunk 15% to $13.13. (Read the full post about ‘Satellite radio merger in limbo’…)

Hot or Not: Estonia laptop edition
Posted Feb 29th 2008 10:14AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Laptops Get this: an Estonian newspaper has teamed up with HP to find the country’s most unsightly laptop, and while the one pictured above hasn’t been deemed the victor (yet), it definitely looks to have been on the wrong end of a Russian cyber attack. Apparently, the contestants have already been selected, and users can surf on over and place their vote for the single most repulsive machine in the mix. Philips brings toasters to the 21st century

Philips brings toasters to the 21st century

Toast has to be one of the most simplistic pieces of food to make that actually requires preparation. Just pull out the bread, pop it in the toaster, pull down the lever and it does the rest. The toaster itself is rather simple, you have metal brackets that hold down the toast and wires along the sides that heat up your bread. However, that just seems too simple for Philips, who has created a more modern toaster. The new 1200W HD2618 just sounds complicated. It features a digital countdown timer, so you know exactly when your crunchy bread is going to pop up, selections for one or two-sided toasting and power of up to 1200 watts. Clarion intros NAX973HD HDD-based navigation unit
Posted Feb 29th 2008 10:35AM by Darren MurphFiled under: GPS Though it’s hard to see where Clarion’s NAX973HD fits in between in-dash units installed at the factory and portable navigators, we suppose folks already drawn to a dedicated display or totally infatuated with this thing’s software may be in love. Marketed as a nav system that will churn out directions in Europe much quicker than those disc-based systems, this unit features a 30GB internal hard drive, 12-channel GPS receiver, built-in gyro sensor / RDS-TMC tuner for traffic information, pre-loaded NAVTEQ maps of 30 countries, voice recognition / text-to-speech capabilities, 2D / 3D map views and a VGA output to boot.
